Edward A. Scalf
Edward Anderson Scalf, 78, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, in James H.
Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was born in Bluff City, a son of the late Rhuda Scalf and Bessie Morris
Scalf, and lived in Bluff City and Elizabethton all of his life. He was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II and a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Glendora Maines and Loretta Kaylor, both of
Bluff City, Charlene Miller of Bristol Tennessee and Vanessa Smith of Bristol
Virginia; a son, Jeffrey Carr of Bluff City; a sister, Geraldine Grindstaff of
Johnson City; a brother, Sam Scalf of Johnson City; seven grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Oakley-Cook
Funeral Home. Ernie DePew will officiate. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery
with military graveside rites by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Special thanks from the family to the staff of James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs
Nursing Home Care Unit.
The family will receive friends immediately before the service Saturday in the
funeral home and at other times at the home of Glendora Maines, 845 Bunker
Hill Road in Bluff City.

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. --
Terry Lynn Sams
Terry Lynn Sams, 52, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1999,
at his home.
He was born in Bristol and was a son of Anna B. Sams Malone of Bluff City
and the late Clarence Sams. He lived most of his life in this area, retired from
AFG Industries in 1998 after 29 years of service and was a U.S. Army
veteran.
Surviving, besides his mother, are a daughter, Nika Sams of Piney Flats; a
sister, Jo Ann Sams of Bluff City; three brothers, Dallas Sams, Ricky Sams and
Curtis Malone, all of Bluff City; two grandsons; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Bunker Hill Christian
Church in Bluff City. The Rev. Ernie Depew will officiate. Burial will be in
Jones Cemetery in Bluff City with military graveside honors by the Hammond
Post 3 of the American Legion.
Mr. Sams was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Ira Malone; and three
brothers, Worley Sams, Buddy Sams and Ted Sams.
Among survivors are two grandsons, Justin Nixon and Teryn Felty.
Pallbearers will be Walt Nickels, Mike Christian, Todd Felty, Alfonso Blair,
Terry Malone and Ron Scalfe. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Maines,
David Schupe, Herman Rumley and Walley Owens.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Carter-Trent
Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, and other times at the residence.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
