JONESBOROUGH - Tex Autry Scalf, Sr., age 73, Jonesborough passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a native of G reeneville but had lived in Jonesborough since 1989. He was a son of the late Garfield Scalf and Mary Ellen Sherfey Scalf Creasey. Mr. Scalf was a United States Army Veteran. He was employed by A & M Express as a truck driver for ten years and Jay Sweeney Auto Sales for eighteen years. Mr. Scalf was a member of Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, Johnson City. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Scalf on March 24, 2014; six brothers and one sister. He leaves behind to cherish his memories three sons: Tex Scalf, Jr., Tony Scalf and wife, Karen and Matthew Jewell all of Jonesborough; three grandchildren: Michelle Ann Scalf, Harlan Scalf and Heather Scalf, all of Jonesborough; one great granddaughter, Arabella Bowling of Jonesborough; a very special sister-in-law, Virginia Jewell, Jonesborough. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 11:30 A. M. until the hour of service Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Harold McNabb will officiate at the 1:00 P. M. service. Music will be provided by Harold and Ruth McNabb. Pallbearers will be members of the Rolling Thunder. Interment will follow at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tennessee. Military Honors will be rendered by the Kingsport VFW Post #4933.
